Torre del Mar has a reliable and well-connected transport system, making it easy to travel within town and to nearby destinations along the Costa del Sol. Whether you commute for work, study, or leisure, there are plenty of convenient and affordable options.
Local Buses
The town’s local and regional bus services are operated by ALSA, connecting Torre del Mar with Vélez-Málaga, Málaga, Nerja, and other coastal towns.
- Torre del Mar – Vélez-Málaga Line:
A frequent and inexpensive service that runs every 20–30 minutes. It’s ideal for quick trips to the shopping centres, local markets, and the bus station in Vélez. Some buses go via the hospital. The majority stop at the bus station in Vélez-Málaga, though some terminate at the library which is better for the main shops. - Torre del Mar – Málaga Line:
Regular direct and coastal buses to Málaga city centre and the central bus station. The journey takes about 35–60 minutes depending on the route. The bus station in Málaga is close to the train station, making it easy for onward journeys to the airport or other cities by rail. - Torre del Mar – Nerja Line:
A scenic coastal route taking around 40 minutes, perfect for day trips or commuting to nearby beaches and towns.
Timetables and Tickets:
Schedules are available at the Torre del Mar bus station (Avenida Andalucía) and online via the ALSA website or app. Tickets can be bought in advance or directly from the driver (cash or card accepted).
Long-Distance Buses
From the Vélez-Málaga bus station, you can connect to long-distance routes serving Granada, Córdoba, Seville, Madrid, and other Spanish cities.
Some itineraries will leave from Vélez-Málaga and head straight to the destination, others may involve changing in Málaga.
Trains
Torre del Mar does not have a train station, but you can reach Málaga María Zambrano station by bus, where regional and high-speed AVE trains depart for major Spanish destinations.
There are three main providers of intercity travel: RENFE (the Spanish national railway), Ouigo (Cordoba and Madrid) and Iryo (Barcelona/Cordoba/Madrid and Zaragoza).
Renfe can be expensive unless you book well in advance. That said, it has different services available – AVE, Avant and avlo. You must have a seat booked on the train in order to travel.
Also, if you are traveling with pets, you will need to check whether the service allows them.
Taxis and Uber
Taxis are readily available across Torre del Mar, particularly around the bus station, promenade, and shopping areas.
- Local taxis operate on a meter with reasonable fares.
- Bolt and Uber operate intermittently along the coast, but traditional taxis are usually faster and more reliable.
Cycling and Walking
Torre del Mar is flat and bicycle-friendly, with dedicated lanes and seaside promenades connecting to nearby Caleta de Vélez and Algarrobo Costa. Many residents use bikes for daily errands or leisure rides.
- You can buy or rent bikes from several local shops.
- The seafront promenade is ideal for both cyclists and pedestrians.
Driving and Parking
If you drive, Torre del Mar has good road links via the A-7 motorway, connecting to Málaga (35 mins) and Nerja (25 mins). Parking is generally easy outside of summer months, though the seafront can get busy in peak season.
- Free parking is available around along the beachfront, in various side streets and by the municipal sports complex.
- Blue zones (pay-and-display) also operate near the beach and town centre. There are no meters, you have to pay an attendant.
Airport Connections
The Málaga–Costa del Sol Airport is about 50 km away. You can reach it by:
- Direct ALSA bus from Torre del Mar (around 1hr 30 minutes hour) – this line runs very infrequently; the next option is preferable.
- Bus to Málaga + local train from María Zambrano to the airport (Line C1). As the train station is next to the bus station, it is a fairly easy transit from one to the other.
